LepSoc 2013
June 27-30, 2013
Hilton University of Florida Conference Center

Welcome

The McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity, the Florida Museum of Natural History and the University of Florida invite you to attend the 62nd Annual Meeting of  the Lepidopterists' Society, hosted with the Southern Lepidopterists' Society and the Association for Tropical Lepidoptera. The meeting will be held at the Hilton University of Florida Conference Center in Gainesville, Florida, a city noted for its green canopy of magnolias, oaks and pines.
Gainesville is nestled in north Florida off of I-75, just about equidistant from Jacksonville, Orlando and Tampa.  There are numerous opportunities for a family vacation associated with the meetings.  In addition to the Florida Museum of Natural History with the Butterfly Rainforest, the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art and the Phillips Center for Performing Arts on the University of Florida campus, there are a number of historical sites in the Gainesville area and such attractions as the Devil's Millhopper Geological State Park and the Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park.

The schedule will include separate field trips for photographers/watchers and collectors during the day on June 27 and a moth field trip that evening.  The number of participants for each field trip will be limited so preregistration is required. Each registrant will receive a free admission to the Butterfly Rainforest at the McGuire Center.  Formal presentations and poster sessions will be scheduled for June 28-30, with special evening events including the traditional barbecue (June 28) and banquet (June 29).

McGuire Collection Resources
The curatorial and support staff have made impressive strides to incorporate new material into the McGuire Collections for students, amateurs, and professional lepidopterists to consult during the meetings.  We invite you to visit the collections during your stay in Gainesville, but please make an appointment by June 10, 2013 with our collections managers, Dr. Andrei Sourakov (asourakov@flmnh.ufl.edu) or Dr. Andrew Warren (andy@butterfliesofamerica.com), so that we can best serve you.  Please indicate which groups you would like to examine so that we can organize specimens and optimize your time in the McGuire Collections.
